Alps and Climate

Key Issues and Recommendations

The most important measure to be taken consists in a drastic reduction of greenhouse emissions all over the world. Even if this objective is reached, impacts will continue (delayed-action) and measures must be taken locally and regionally in the Alpine area:

  • Adapted regional development

  • Mapping of danger zones

  • Monitoring and management of protection forests

  • Technical protection measures like river restoration, protection of wetlands, nets against debris flows, etc.

  • Set up of alarm systems, evacuation and immediate help.
